Apologies” is the ninth episode in the third season of the comedy drama series The Bear. It premiered on June 26, 2024, on FX and Hulu.

Synopsis[]

Carmy thinks about apologizing.

Plot[]

Carmy and the Faks argue as they break down boxes. The Faks think it's a haunt because the task never seems to end. Ted wonders if Claire Bear is haunting them. Carm disagrees because she's peace and haunting is chaos. Fak and Ted suggest he apologize to her for everything, but Carm feels it's too hard, despite their insistence that it's not. Finally, he admits to thinking Claire might be haunting him.

Sydney talks to herself as she gets ready for her shift, trying to figure out what to say to Carm.

That night, Carmen rails on his chefs as he complains about their speed, efficiency, and continues to yell, ignoring everyone's input as tensions rise. Richie reads the reviews for The Bear which are shockingly positive. The two cousins are on opposite sides of the wall and feeling every bit of tension. Afterward, the staff scrubs down the kitchen.

Richie gets a wedding invitation for Tiffany and Frank. Gary brings him a glass of wine and they discuss the hectic night. They missed a birthday that night, which upsets Richie as that's on him.

Sydney and Carmy prepare dishes. He tells her that expo is killing them. He's still trying to crack the plate, but tells her that he's fine. She offers to stay later if he needs help, but he wants her to get some rest. The night was off and she points out that things have been off. He apologizes for that. She finds it hard to keep up with him, and not on a skill level like he thinks. She starts to tell him about her offer but decides it can wait, despite him being open to hearing anything. The Ever funeral service is tomorrow night which is heavy for him. He's going to see a lot of important people and invites her to come with him. She's hesitant at first, but eventually agrees to join him. He doesn't want it to be hard for her to keep up with him. She leaves for the evening, so Carmy goes back to obsessing over his plate, ultimately tossing it. He goes inside the walk-in where he thinks about calling Claire. He apologizes to her before calling, but can't muster up the courage to actually press the button. He remembers moments of her, including her saying that she loves him. He leaves the walk-in with tears.

Sydney looks through reviews of The Bear that highlight Carmen.

Marcus and Tina are working in The Bear on his day off to try and improve himself. Gary is working on grapes.

Carm hoses down the alley when Cicero stops by to drop off his golf clubs since he doesn't want to leave them in his car. He asks if Carm knows when the review is coming, but he doesn't. They both admit to thinking about it a lot. Cicero talks to him about goals and ambitions. He can't get killed on this deal. If the review is bad, he has to cut the string. He cautiously tells Carm that Donna wants to talk to him. Carm doesn't resent him for bringing it up. Cicero feels he should have done more for Carm and his family when they were younger. Carm doesn't know what he could have done, and Cicero feels he could have tried. Carm relates to that feeling because he left as soon as he could, but Cicero doesn't blame him for cruising. They decide to call it even - except for the 850k that Carm owes him.

The Computer talks to Cicero in his car, reminding Cicero that he has to tell Carmen that he can't afford to keep being in the business. Cicero feels like a father to Carm and can't cut him up. He tells Computer to shut up, though Computer hopes he goes broke so he can have empathy.

Richie sits on a bench with Tiff to watch Eva play on a playground. They make small talk until she asks if he will RSVP to her wedding. He must have forgotten and wants to be there. She doesn't want to be weird about it, and he assures her that it's all good. She doesn't have a lot of family left so Richie is about it for her. Unless it's hard, awful, or terrible for him, she wants him to be there. His hesitation isn't about Frank, who seems okay, but it would be nice to hate the guy. Richie asks if Tiff told Eva that he was alone, but they get distracted by Eva who is about to eat something off the ground. Tiff apologizes for telling Eva that he's alone. He doesn't want Eva to worry about her. Tiffany saw Claire the other day and tells Richie about their conversation.

Tina makes some dishes while Marcus watches from the baking section. He checks on her and she's lost in the plate. He tries her food and compliments it as being really good. She asks if he's okay and he admits to getting flashes of memories about his mom. He gives her an idea for the plate.

Carmen, who is at home, sketches in his notebook. He flips through books as montages of him sketching and cooking play.

Sydney has her Uber stop at the water front so she can look out at the water.

Neil and Ted visit the hospital where Claire works after hatching a plan to apologize on Carmen's behalf. They want to say things on his behalf to help facilitate a reconciliation. Ted wonders if he's going to heaven for being so great, and Neil asks what religion they are.

Syd visits Pete and Natalie's place to drop-off a big bag of food. He unpacks it while Natalie and the baby sleep. He's feeling grateful for everything. He looked over The Bear's offer for her and they awkwardly discuss everything.

Neil arrives at the hospital looking for Claire having pretended to be sick so he can see her. He jumps into the conversation about Carmen, but Ted arrives late which makes things a bit hectic. They tag team her as they remind her how much Carm loves her and thinks about her. Claire doesn't believe them because he hasn't reached out to her at all. Neil wants them to take care of each other the way no one else has been taking care of them. She loves both of the Faks so much, and they tell her about Claire being the peace. She appreciates both of them, but insists they leave her work.

Nat watches her baby stir in the crib, taking a picture of her to send to Donna.

Carm gets ready for the funeral.
