Synopsis[]
Sydney gets a new apartment. Marcus finds inspiration.
Plot[]
Carmy remembers talking to Claire about having no idea what day of the week it is. He liked Wednesday's as a kid because it meant the week was half over. She likes Monday's because anything's possible. He doesn't like Sunday's because he has anxiety over having nothing to do because the restaurant's closed. He talks to her about his anxiety and she understands him, so they kiss. She asks about the burn on the bottom of his palm; he grabbed a really hot pot. She opens up about a traumatic case she saw in the ER where a young girl fell through a glass table.
Marcus sits in his house surrounded by his mother's medical equipment. He leaves and notices a fence with a single flower growing on a vine.
Sydney stares at the Docusign in her inbox.
Sydney takes her dad to a prospective apartment that she's looking into. She presses him to give his actual opinions then accuses him of being negative. He wants her to stay with him and save money. She already signed the lease, so he sighs and offers to help her find a couch at a secondhand store.
Richie wakes up his daughter, Eva, telling her she's going to have fun with Frank. She's confused about what to call him and feels bad that he's alone like her mom said. He tells her that he's okay and she asks for a hundred candles for her birthday cake. He promises to give her them. She mentions that Auntie DD is coming to her mom's wedding which makes Richie laugh.
Richie gets ready for work and finally takes off his wedding ring.
Nat gets ready for the day while telling Pete about her plan to find DD. He feels guilty about leaving for two weeks, but she insists she's fine with it.
Tina goes to the farmers market. It's small pickings since there's fewer months to grow vegetables which means fewer farms. She likes his phrase "whatever grows together goes together".
Fak and Ted scream for Carmy to come into his office so they can show him the wall they made of every major food critics face. He hates the feelings it provokes of PTSD from his time with Chef David. He tells Fak to put the pictures in a binder by the hostess stand. He puts Ted in charge of helping Ebra then leaves, and the Fak's are happy with the outcome and are gushing over it when Carmy shouts a reminder to help Ebra.
Ebra struggles with the sandwich window. Chi-Chi reminisces about how the old store ran and tries to give Ebra some advice on how to better his situation.
Eva and Richie walk to Frank's house as they talk about what creature they would be. She calls Frank "Waldo" since she can call him whatever she wants. Eva heads inside so Frank and Richie can talk. He explains that Eva asked what to call him. Frank doesn't mind "Waldo". Frank feels bad that he didn't give Richie a heads up before proposing to Tiff. They have some awkward small talk before Richie leaves.
Sydney gets off the subway when Adam Shaprio from Ever stops her. He snuck into The Bear a few weeks ago when Carmen and Richie were yelling at each other. He understands the tension, but compliments the restaurant and food. He tries to ask about the behind the scenes aspects of the restaurant, but she keeps it tight-lipped.
Marcus experiments with a new design. Carmen cuts himself while slicing grapefruit, so Sydney takes over. They go over the menu changes which frustrates her. The lack of communication between the front and back of house is killing them. She had Nat print out menus because they were both told it was locked. In that time, Carmen didn't tell anyone about the change. He realizes her point about bad communication. He asks if she got the apartment and congratulates her on it. He's still not smoking and is forty-one days off. He misses it every ten seconds. She tries some of his nicotine gum, finding it gross.
Nat tells Richie about the Michelin star system while he puts a photo on the wall. Speaking for himself, his doesn't give a fuck about the "French tire marketing exec." The photo he's putting on the wall is of the Philosopher's Path and she asks him to explain it. She knows about the path because of Pete and suggests Richie take him one day. He asks about her pregnancy. She's struggling with not letting her negative thoughts affect her baby. She asks about Evie, with Richie wondering if it's confusing for his daughter if he's around. He wonders if he shouldn't be around anymore, but Nat reassures him that he should be there. Evie thinks that he's alone, and he dodges Nat's question if it's true. They talk about the week since they still haven't made it. She gets a call about photos.
Nat and Richie approach the kitchen to ask why the Tribune is coming to take photos. It means they're getting reviewed and the reviewers have already been there.
